Sad that Polyclinic itself is in decline and they are participating in this questionable practice of directing patients to a surgery center that is more expensive for most. Read the reviews.
Surprised to see the reviews so low - my experience here was great. The nurses were really kind and made the experience better for me. The facility was easy to park in and easy to get to. The waiting room was very comfortable for my support person. Everything was right on time and the communication from staff was excellent. No complaints! No one wants to have surgery but if you’re going to have it, this is a great place to get it done. Extra thanks to my nurses Emma and Kathy (Cathy?) who took great care of me.
a few days ago my spouse had a surgery at FHSC, in pre op, almost 45 minutes after receiving nerve block in RT arm, there was a code RED(which turned out to be a false alarm). they took her out of the building with IV running in LT arm, without her nurse to monitor her vitals, and RT arm completely numb, also the nerve block made her to feel dizzy and disoriented. Surgical facilities supposed to have a designated area for patients in that kind of situation and avoid sending them to street. After the operation when my spouse was in post op, the nurse who was assigned for her was so busy watching two or three more patients, so, she couldn't provide a good service. we asked her to provide us ice pack and some saltine crackers, but she forgot. A few times she got paged when she was talking to us and left in the middle of conversation. I was in post op room for more than an hour, and there was a paper to sign, paper supposed to have 2nd page to show explanation for some charges which was missing. the nurse forgot to ask me to read and sign the paper, after I left to bring my car to pick up my patient, she had my spouse, who was still under the influence of anesthesia medication to put her initial on the paper without reading the contents. I work in medical field, what I witnessed that day from First Hill Surgery Center staff wasn't professional.
First Hill Surgery Center was great! They were very attentive and accommodating, and the facility is comfortable and well maintained. Things moved very quickly, and I think every member of my operating team talked to me before my procedure and were very kind about my anxieties. The only thing I'd say to be careful about is the cost estimate. They told me I'd owe about $940, which I knew was too high because I have a low deductible. They agreed to let me wait until insurance pays, so it ended up not being an issue.
For the love of God, don't get your surgery here! As you'll see from other negative reviews, First Hill Surgery Center works on the pre-payment system, requiring patients to pay up front for surgery. This is a shady and predatory practice. In my case, I've paid upfront, but after my insurance processed the claim, it turned out that the surgery should have cost less and I was due a refund. I've been trying to get my money back for the last 2 months! Their call center is useless, all they tell you is that the refund department will be contacted. They called me back once and told me the check is in the mail, but that was a lie! The contact email on the Polyclinic page is also useless it goes to the same call center. It's a shame that their financial practices are this bad because the center does a great job at surgeries. Update: Finally got my refund two and half months later!
