Update: We found a friendlier, cheaper, professional, and local place in west virginia and maryland that was only 50 percent of what they ask for. Why did we go here? Because that is what my family member's insurance told her to go as they stated it was in network. This surgery center is not professional and did not inform my family member of the cost of surgery. we were told by Virginia eye institute that we would pay 1800 at their clinic and then an unknown amount that was not told to us during our preop and we were told by the institute to call the surgery center to find the amount that was needed to pay them for the surgery. they called my family member while she was at work and I called and left a voicemail and never got a call back. We arrived today for her cataract surgery and it is 2300 plus 700 for anesthesia. she canceled the appointment for the lack of transparency, over pricing, and professionalism. If you are reading this and getting a cataract surgery I recommend you runaway and cancel the appointment and go somewhere else that's better. 4800 is way too much for this type of surgery. she can get her cataract surgery for half the price at her original surgeon. Why did we go here? This center is closer to home than the other surgeon. but for that price we might as well continue to go to the same surgeon even if he is in a different country. the professionalism, cost, and transparency is worlds apart. I find it very ironic that a virginia eye clinic has dropped their standards while upcoming 2nd world countries are catching up and surpassing those standards held by states inside usa and canada.
I went this morning for a cataract procedure at 6.00 am, filled out the paperwork ,few minutes latter I was escorted inside the examination area for preparation required before the surgery. A nurse came to me and asked the usual questions asked to patients before their procedure. It seemed that everything was going smoothly till I was asked about the person who is going to drive me home I gave his name and my relationship to him, told the nurse he will come to pick me up after the procedure is complete then the nurse asked me if I could call him and ask him to come and stay in the center until I’m done.. I said : you want me to call my neighbor at 6.00 am to come and stay in the center ?? She said yes!! I shot back NO!! I’m not going to call my neighbor at 6.00 am to come and stay here for hours especially since I had the same procedure done on my other eye without having my ride coming with me and staying till I’m done, then another lady came in identified herself as Head Nurse repeating the same thing telling me there has been a change in policy so I thundered why wasn’t I told of this change in policy when I was given a call reminding me of the time, place and the preparations to make ?? She gave the annoying answer that we hear when mistakes are made by a lot : sorry.. at that point I stood up collected my glasses, my phone and walked out, called latter and warned the center not to bill my insurance or I will dispute the charges.
I didn’t have surgery here, but I was the driver for someone who did. Her appt was at 1:40. We arrived at 1:30 to fill out paper work and get checked in. We sat in the lobby for 1.5 hours before they called for her to go back. They told me I was not allowed to leave the parking lot while she was having the procedure. Which is crazy ridiculous anyway. The procedure was to take about 40 min start to finish. At 4:10 they called me to tell me they were just taking her back to start the procedure and that she would be discharged at about 4:30! Waisted 3 hours! And no apologies!
If the front desk is any indication of how this business practices count me out. I made an appointment with them months back and the day before my appointment they called as a reminder. When I called them back the lady on the phone couldn't find my appointment, she called me by the wrong name twice and said they had my birthday in wrong. She seemed like she had no idea what she was doing. I canceled the appointment on the apt. I have now gone somewhere else way more professional. If you can't handle a simple appointment how are you going to a patient. No thanks!
I had both eyes done here in February by Dr. Rana. What an outstanding group of people Winchester Eye Surgery Center has on staff. My pre op phone call nurse was very thorough and gave me all the information I needed to feel comfortable going into my surgery. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and helped me feel at ease when I was registering for my procedures. And the nurses! These ladies, from pre op to recovery, are TOP NOTCH! They are so kind and calm and explained everything that was happening so I didn't feel surprised by touches or movements within the center. Outstanding facility, staff and doctors. I would highly recommend this center to anyone who needs surgery. ***One thing to note...the center and the doctors office are not the same. Different staff, different billing, different everything. So don't be surprised if you get more than one bill or have more than one amount due. They each have their own fees. Just an FYI.***
