I want to start by saying the nursing staff at Chippenham Hospital is world-class. I truly loved all my nurses; they were compassionate, attentive, and quite literally pulled me across the finish line during one of the most difficult weeks of my life. If I could rate the nursing care alone, it would be 10 stars. However, the experience at the physician and administrative levels was deeply frustrating. My routine gallbladder removal resulted in a bile duct injury—a known risk I was informed of, but one that turned a standard procedure into a week-long stay. The biggest issues were communication and scheduling: The "Limbo" Diet: Because my procedures were not properly coordinated or communicated, I was kept on a liquid diet for several days. I suffered from horrible, debilitating headaches due to the lack of solid food and the constant "prep" cycles. This was entirely avoidable with better scheduling. Scheduling Failures: I was "bumped" for my ERCP procedure three separate times. The most upsetting moment occurred when I was fully prepped and ready at 3:30 PM, only to have anesthesiology refuse to proceed because there was no "guarantee" of being finished by 5:00 PM. Being prepped and then turned away was a level of frustration I have never experienced in a healthcare setting. Contradictory Information: I received conflicting discharge instructions regarding my internal stent. The hospitalist stated it needed to stay for 6 months, while the G.I. specialist said 6 weeks. This lack of "same page" communication creates unnecessary anxiety for a recovering patient. I am home now and healing, but I was in the hospital for a week for something that should have taken 3-4 days. I am so grateful for the nurses who cared for my soul and my body, but Chippenham needs to address the communication gaps between their specialists and the scheduling rigidness that leaves patients in limbo.

I want to take a moment to recognize the Emergency Department team at Chippenham Hospital for the exceptional care you provided to my brother last night after his car accident. I arrived not as a clinician or professional, but simply as family—and in that moment, your team showed up in every way that mattered. From the urgency, to the compassion, to the clear communication and steady reassurance, it was evident that my brother was in skilled, capable, and deeply caring hands. He is the only family I have here in Virginia and he means the world to me. Knowing he was treated with such professionalism, kindness, and respect brought me a level of comfort I can’t fully put into words. You didn’t just treat injuries—you cared for a human being and supported the people who love him. Your teamwork, calm presence, and dedication did not go unnoticed. You are true rock stars, and I am profoundly grateful for the care you provided to my brother during one of the scariest nights we’ve had. Thank you for doing what you do, and for doing it so well. Big shout out to his RN Ryan! Thank you for Showing Up for us!!

Had a great experience in vascular for a leg doppler ultrasound. Ebony was great from the start. She made me feel very comfortable, she was very friendly and confident in what she does. She is a people person which is very important to patients as they want to feel that the staff not only care about their work but you as a person. I was feeling really lost and down hearted but by the time I left, she didn't even know that she lifted me up and made my day and I was able to make it through my day because of her kindness. Keep up the good work. Hospitals need more people like you Ebony. Thank you for making my day.

I've had beautiful birth experiences here with both of my babies 14 years apart in Chippenhams Labor and Delivery Unit. The day nurses are especially attentive, caring, and wonderful. We had a scare with our most recent pregnancy during labor, and each Doctor, nurse, and, anesthesiologist took their time to thoroughly explain things to me in a calm manner, multiple times. They stayed by my side to ensure that I was OK, felt safe, and understood what was happening. I could see the care in their faces, which was very comforting during a moment of fear. I love that the room is very private and all baby care happens right in your delivery room. I felt that my baby was very safe and taken care of after birth. I wish the night nurses had been a bit more attentive.

I had 5 nurses who I only liked out of all of them. Raquel(I don't know if I spelled her name right hopefully im giving a shout out to the right one)Amia, Heather, amber, Kayla. I hope I got there names right since I asked most of them, aside from them taking care of me. My experience there was bad. It didn't look like they were on the same page. The photographer bad experience as well. She was looking for something and my aunt asked her what was she looking for she said pacifier my aunt said I don't think we have one she said ok and then proceeds to put her finger(gloves on) in my baby mouth and she was 36 weeks born. Me and my aunt looked at each and my other guests as well. I told my aunt to go get a pacifier from the nurse and I told the lady she was getting one so no need to put your finger in her mouth. Housekeeper somewhat started to clean after letting a nurse know I haven't had a bed changed since I got there, my guest best never was changed until my aunt changed it herself since I had to have a guest with my after my baby was discharged and not me. My aunt had to let them know my trash in the bathroom had to be changed. Overall my experience in that hospital was horrible!
