Misleading billing practices and poor patient communication. Dr. Carl May operates two businesses, May Eye Care and this Cherry Tree. Good surgical outcome when my wife had cataract surgery at May Eye Care and UPMC Hillside Outpatient. Her eyes developed a cloudiness which Dr. May corrected at Cherry Tree. We were told by May Eye Care that Medicare was covering the cost. But this was inaccurate as we were billed $574.22 and informed that Medicare does not cover all costs at “Surgical Centers” without a substantial copay. (They do cover all costs at May Eye Care.) Without full prior disclosure that Cherry Tree is a separate organization with different billing personnel and the customer service appears to be overseas in India. After investing several hours trying to get the issue resolved, we gave up and paid the bill. Very disappointed with Dr. May as it appears that Cherry Tree is set up to harvest higher revenue for services to Medicare patients.
