A year ago Dr. Gustav Fischer did a hip replacement for me. I'm 60 years old and pretty active. My goal was to begin light jogging 3 months after surgery, run unrestricted by 6 months and play soccer within a year. I also had a big trekking trip planned in Nepal 11 months after surgery. By month three post-surgery I was jogging. By month 5 I was running unrestricted and by month 7 I was back on the soccer field. I trekked in Nepal with no affects at all. If I had not lived through the surgery, I would never know that I had an artificial hip. I am fully back - with the exception that I'm still 60 and have plenty of other pains and weaknesses that come with age. Maybe I'll go back to Dr. Fischer to see if he can do something about my age as well.
What an amazing team! I appreciate everyone’s help, generosity and kindness. I want to give an extra shoutout to Billie, Loraine, Niki, Allie, and of course Omar (I hope I’m not botching his name - the anesthesiologist). Thank you everyone, again, and thank you for changing my life. Couldn’t have done this without you.
If you have a choice - have your surgery at the Oregon Surgical Institute! I went in for a knee replacement on Halloween. The reception staff was warm, friendly and professional (and, in great costumes). The waiting area was lovely as was the prep room before my surgery. The entire space felt professional, immaculate, and comfortable. The woman who worked with me before my surgery was delightful and thorough. The anesthesiologist, Omar, was friendly and did a great job! My surgeon was Dr. Chris Nanson. This was the second knee he's replaced for me and I wouldn't go to anyone else. OSI felt top-notch! Between the people, their high standards, and their equipment - you can't go wrong.
Do your knees ache, do your hips hurt? Call Oregon Surgical Institute in Beaverton, Oregon. For my knee replacement on 6/25/2025 I chose Dr. James Ballard and his aid Michael Garland, PA for their superior knowledge and experience. Dr. Putnam, anthesiologist, did an excellent job minimizing my pain with nerve blockers. Sarah was great in prepping me before surgery, even offering me a post surgery meal. Dr. Ballard’s team use a half moon cut around the knee cap to minimize scarring, dissolving sutures and waterproof bandaging for easy showering. Andrew and Julie assisted me in recovery - very professional! Wishing you the best with OSI. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Experience, Par Excellence!
I had a great experience with the staff and my surgery. But OSI charged me more than $5k before the procedure and my insurance says I only owe $250. It took a long time to get the insurance review completed and now it's been more than a month since that decision was finalized and still no refund. My surgery was 8 months ago. The folks in billing are nice when I can get through, but it takes multiple tries. I feel taken advantage of and like I have no recourse.
