While my experience with the medical staff and surgical care at Bergan Mercy Surgery Center was outstanding and deserves 5 stars, I’ve given an overall rating of 4 stars due to issues with the billing process. The surgeon, nurses, and the entire medical team were professional, caring, and efficient. The staff was attentive and made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. Their dedication to patient well-being was clear, and I highly recommend them for their exceptional medical care. However, the billing process was frustrating. Before the procedure, I was verbally quoted an out-of-pocket cost between $600–$700 from the Surgery Center for a minor procedure that lasted less than 45 minutes. Weeks later, I received a surprise bill that was about 8 times higher than the original estimate. After several emails and phone calls, the billing department finally acknowledged their mistake and brought the costs back down to the original quote. While I appreciate the adjustment, the process was unnecessarily difficult and lacked transparency. That said, I’m grateful for the outstanding medical care and would gladly recommend the surgeon, Dr. Gardner, and nursing staff to anyone. I hope the facility improves its billing communication to prevent similar confusion for future patients.
I was so pleased with everyone here, and the care by Dr Ayoub. The front desk ladies, every nurse, the Dr and anesthesiologist all quelled my nerves pre-surgery, explained everything in simple language, made me feel safe in their level of expertise, and took great care of me afterwards. They really care about their patients, and exceeded my expectations. Much appreciated and I highly recommend them!
My wife had a colonoscopy done here. Were were mis-informed about the costs, and ended up paying over twice what we were told it would cost, mainly due to the surgery center itself charging two separate surgery center fees (each around $2k) despite it being only 1 procedure. They would not listen to reason at all, they just hide behind 'we have to follow the codes'. They refused to send an itemized bill to show what they're actually charging for, they just re-sent the same bill for two generic 'surgery center' fees. Save yourself a ton of money and find a gastroenterologist that's not associated with a 'surgery center' or hospital, and avoid those crazy fees.
I have had several procedures here and the staff has always been kind and treated me with respect. Sometimes procedures can be overwhelming and everyone here has been great with treating me as a person and explaining everything.
I had surgery here yesterday, everything was on time and every person I encountered was wonderful. Would 100% recommend. They helped my anxiety immensely.
