The desk and Healthcare staff were excellent. Very busy place. My ophthalmologist, Dr Sulliyan, was excellent as well. The surgery center itself was clean, modern, and efficiently run. My first cataract surgery was seamless, with an easy recovery. I was looking forward to my second surgery. However, there was an unforeseen complication during my second surgery. There was a weak spot in the sack where my cataract was. The sack tore as the pieces of cataract were being removed and vitreous fluid started to seep in. My Dr had to clear the area and insert my new lense. This process involved more time and more digging around in my L eye. I Felt Everything And It Hurt. I repeatedly asked my Dr where my anesthesia Dr, Dr Oliver J Wolfe, was. The only voices in the room were Dr Sulliyan and his scrub tech. I spoke clearly and in complete sentences and repeatedly asked for pain relief. I told my Dr I could feel him digging in my eye and that it hurt a great deal. My Dr was busy dealing with the complication. I felt Dr Wolfe give me a dose of something when the ordeal first began, but it helped little. That was all I was given, as far as I know. I was wide awake, talking, and remained in a great deal of pain for the rest of the surgery. I was very upset. Afterwards my Dr told me that Dr. Wolfe, the owner of the Gateway Anesthesia Group that provides services to Gateway Surgery Center (I researched online and found this out).....my Dr told me that Dr Wolfe said I could have no more medicine, that i had received all i could have. I had to "tough it out" during the extra work needed on the eye due to the complication. If I was wide awake, talking, and felt the digging going on in my eye, I beg to differ with Dr Wolfe. My Vital signs were stable, why not ease my pain during the rest of surgery? So my only complaint is about Dr Wolfe and the complete lack of pain control during my complication repair. Dr Sulliyan, my eye Dr, called me that night and saw me first thing in the morning to check my L eye. I am told I am doing as well as expected. I will never return to Gateway Surgery Center, only because of the lack of empathy and lack of adequate pain control on the part of Dr Wolfe. I am a retired nurse from a critical care area within SSM. I have had experience giving Versed and Fentanyl to patients during procedures, to ensure they were comfortable and pain free. That was always a top priority, as long as their Vital signs were stable. I hope no one else has to ever go through what I endured with anesthesiologist Dr Oliver J Wolfe. (In the interest of full disclosure, I have anxiety and take multiple meds for this. This can cause me to need more meds for pain control. I made sure Dr Wolfe was aware of this during my first surgery. Dr Wolfe mentioned before my second surgery that he remembered me. Either way, every patient deserves at least adequate pain control during a surgical procedure)

The staff that greets you up front was extremely rude and not nice at all. I had a really bad experience at this facility and would give it a zero but one is the lowest you can rate. My doctor was awesome but this facility with the exception of Andy who was really nice and caring, has staff that clearly don’t want to be there.

I had a vitrectomy (floaters) at Gateway. This review is not of the doctor or staff, they did their best. The machine extracting the floaters out of my eye broke down mid surgery. IMO, this is an extremely serious complication that is high risk to anyones vision. They tried to get the machine running again but it was dead. While I laid there with the doctor jamming his finger into my eyeball multiple times to continuously check the pressure, they had to bring in a different machine and calibrate it before sticking it back into my eyeball, to finish the surgery. They were downplaying what was going on even though I could hear the stress in their voices semi-freaking out because they had to swap machines. I was in such extreme distress by the end of this disaster, I was thrashing on the table despite having an IV of sedative. My eye felt like it was on fire when I left. Do with that information what you want when deciding if you want to trust your vision to Gateway equipment. My surgery was on 5/27/25.

the treatment my husband received at this eye center was abosilutely wonderful. The people who work there are so kind and patient. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who is needing cataract surgery. THank you so much for your time and patience.

Two days ago I had cataract surgery at Gateway Surgery Center, performed by Dr. Schell. It was a seamless procedure, performed in a clean, modern facility and I was attended to by caring, professional staff. I was in and out of there in about 2 hours and felt great the next day at my follow up appointment. Highly recommend!
