**WARNING** DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE FOR SURGERY-PLEASE READ!! took my daughter, 11 years old, to have surgery on her foot on 01/06/2026. Prior to procedure date I had called the center and let them know my daughter has adhd, depression and severe anxiety and does not handle needles very well. I let them know she was having anxiety already and would need oral sedation before she could be IV'd. As my daughter was getting prepped for the procedure in a room at the office, the Anesthesiologist **DAN MUIR** entered the room. At this time my daughter had NOT been given any oral sedation for anxiety and was quite scared. Although my child was visibly shaken, he proceeded to emotionless and loudly tell her that they would be putting a needle in her arm to administer the sedative to calm her down. My daughter began panicking. Then he went on to tell her after they put the iv in they would be giving her a nerve blocking shot in the back of her leg which will hurt and SHE WOULD BE AWAKE FOR. Shocked at what I had just heard, I tried telling her it wasnt going to hurt very bad at all... TO WHICH DAN MUIR CORRECTED ME BY SAYING "YES IT WILL HURT, IM NOT GOING TO LIE TO HER, SHE IS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW" My daughter began crying uncontrollably and at that point did not even want to get the iv placed in her arm. All the while the anesthesiologist was getting upset that my daughter was having a panic attack during his speech! He then goes on to tell her that they will be putting a tube down her throat so she can breathe during the operation and it also will hurt after the surgery. By this point the nurse had begun with trying to find a vein for the iv. My daughter was pulling away and reaching at the needle while SCREAMING NOW and the anesthesiologist was pushing the nurse away TELLING HER TO NOT FIGHT WITH MY DAUGHTER AND SAID IF SHE DOESNT WANT YOU TO DO IT DONT! The nurse was not happy with him and his handling of my daughter either and she told him sternly "she is only 11!" And continued to try calming daughter to place the iv while her father and I tried holding her arms and legs. DAN MUIR thought it was acceptable to ask a pediatric patient if she wanted to continue, after telling her how much pain she would be in! AS IF A CHILD COULD CHOOSE TO HAVE THE SURGERY OR NOT!!! MY DAUGHTER IS SO TRAUMATIZED AT THE MOMENT, SHE HAS BEEN CRYING WHILE TELLING FAMILY MEMBERS HOW SCARRY THE ANESTHESIOLIST WAS AND HOW MEAN HE WAS TO HER! I am sickened and heart broken by the experience my daughter had for her first surgery. Furthermore, no one should have been discussing details of the surgery with the child or asking the child if she wanted to go through with surgery! That is to be discussed with the parent. Not a child with multiple mental health dignosis. I would also like to add that the nurses were very kind, courteous and helpful. Unfortunately all the kindness in the world can not undo what **DAN MUIR** DID BY UNNECESSARILY TRAUMATIZING MY CHILD.PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY FOR PEDIATRIC SURGERY!
My experience was wonderful at GRSC. The entire staff took great care to ensure I was well taken care of. I highly recommend this facility.
Cannot sing Grand River Surgery Center's praises any louder! Absolutely amazed at how kind every staff member was that I saw for my surgery. Each person was so personable and made sure I was comfortable and confident with my procedure. So grateful for the team at Grand River Surgery Center! I'd love to go here for any surgery I may ever have in the future! Super impressed.
Had surgery here last week and my experience was the best I could have possibly asked for. From the phone call prior to, the day of surgery and a follow-up, the care that the doctors and nurses provided was exceptional. A special thank you to Lee, Julia, Dr. Johnson, my surgeon Dr. Thomson, Kayla and Teri who explained everything and answered questions. I would highly recommend!
Just had the best experience for my sons ear tube surgery. Staff was amazing! Facility was clean and the procedure was quick! Doctor Johnson with anesthesia was absolutely amazing with my son. The nursing staff including Julia and Lee were so great and attentive. Would hands down come back for another procedure in the future if needed. Dr. Goebel met with us so quickly after the procedure and was so kind and genuine. We could not have asked for a better team to take care of our boy. I also highly reccomend A Sleepy Tale: My first surgery book on Amazon for your child to prepare for surgery. It is a great example of what to expect to prepare yourself and little for surgery day!
