I visited this neurology office in October 2025, hoping for a better experience after a disappointing encounter with another practice. Initially, things looked promising—my first interactions, both over the phone and in person, were courteous and professional. The staff was friendly, the location convenient with free parking, and the wait time minimal. My provider recommended an epidural procedure, which I scheduled for the following week pending insurance approval. I rearranged my personal and work commitments to accommodate the appointment. However, on the day of the procedure, I received a call from the office informing me that my insurance had denied coverage. Seeking clarity, I contacted my insurance company directly. They explained that the denial was due to missing clinical documentation—the provider had not submitted the necessary information to justify the procedure. The insurance representative advised that the provider could appeal the decision by submitting the required clinical details and contacting the authorization department, where the case was already documented. I relayed this information to the office, and the customer authorization representative assured me they would pass the message along to the appropriate staff member. After a week with no follow-up, I called again. This time, I was told that the office does not proactively contact insurance companies due to workload, and that they were waiting for further instructions from the insurer. At that point, I expressed my concern and let them know I would be seeking care elsewhere. Their response? A simple “okay.” No apology, no effort to retain me as a patient, no concern for the disruption to my health or schedule. This experience left me deeply disappointed. I came seeking better care and support, but was met with indifference and a lack of accountability. It’s disheartening to see how far the standard of service has declined in many medical practices. I truly hope there are still providers out there who prioritize patient care over administrative convenience.
Staff & Dr's / CRNP are nasty. After months of agonizing pain and not having my pain taken seriously that the Office Manager made fun of me on the phone when I said lack of proper care has caused a dip in my quality of life. I have none, I am in incredible pain everyday and have been since becoming a patient in Jan/Feb 2024. I specifically choose this practice and even asked if they handled pregnant patients was told they did and scheduled with one of their doctors. I underwent IVF in Apr 2024 which I made my Dr well aware at my initial appt. Even he commented on how we should wait til the end of the pregnancy to install a medical device to get my endometriosis pain under control. I was the switched to CRNP Greene who for 4 months blew off my increased pain. Then told me last month the only way he would adjust my regiment was to get a letter from my OB. I did and had to play phone tag between Pain and OB since July 18th. Only to go in for my appt this week and be told that the practice was not going to make any adjustments to my pain regiment. I gave them my new OB's card and was told it was pointless for them to connect at all after telling me 6 weeks prior that was the only way my pain regime would change. Then was finally told that I am their ONLY Pregnant patient and they don't deal with pregnant patients at all. So I could continue to see them for inadequate care that has me using a walker and no safe ability to drive or I could take me somewhere else for care. I also failed my depression screening test in office and the Nurse just had me sign a form saying they asked me the questions. Then the CRNP came in and made not one mention of the depression screening at all which I failed because of part of their inadequate management of my care and pushing off me repeatedly saying the pain is worse. Last I noticed if a patient fails a depression screening then the practice is supposed to provide them with resources for mental health help. Nope just let me walk out despite being in visible pain every appt. Still in agonizing chronic pain which is leading to the depression and they haven't tried to refer me once until admitting this week that I am their only pregnant patient (I am 5 months pregnant) they knew from Feb I was planning on getting pregnant and then I confirmed in May that I was pregnant with twins. Not once did anyone refer me to a doctor that specifically deals with pregnant patients at all. And this last visit they told me find my own damn pain specialist that focuses on that. And don't add in the front desk receptionist trying to add his two cents to mix. Or how the Cigna Nurse Advocate told me that the Pain Office would change my regiment only for that to be a lie when I got there. Most days, I am in so much pain I can't talk and can barely breathe. But yea thanks for giving me the damn run around, not helping me and then making fun of me. All these interactions were with the male staff aside from the nurse last check in.
I must say, that though once in the office everyone is great. National Spine and Pain needs to do something with their call system. The fact that you can't get past the call center to speak to anyone in the office is insane. Not even a hospital ER doctor or a Hospice Nurse can get anyone to assist them with a patient of theirs or get anyone to return any calls. I have had to actually go to the Oxon hill location to get the information that Doctors needed back in July while my family member was in the hospital and they refused to return any of the hospital doctors phone calls. Now here I am facing the same issue, with messages being left to the staff from the Hospice nurse and her affiliates, with no return call and still not being able to obtain the information needed to properly care for my family member while under hospice care. This is insane and absolute cruel to the patients and family members. As if dealing with a family member on hospice isn't enough, now to have to deal with the fact that my family members comfort is being delayed because National Spine and pain won't return any calls or even care enough to provide the information needed!!!
First off I would like to say that Dr. Mangal and his team and the nurses and office staff were awesome! The rest of the experience was horrible. I know as patients it is up to us to do our due diligence when it comes to making sure that everything is properly handled when dealing with medical issues, and I try to stay on top of that but you can only do so much with the information that you are provided. I was not properly informed and as a result of this I now have a huge bill to pay. Dealing with the billing department has been challenging because you can never get direct answers to your questions and if you are lucky to get someone you will be put on hold several times., you can’t talk to or email anyone directly regarding claims. It was a hard lesson to learn but I got it and never again.
My recent visit here was excellent. Starting from the front desk customer service was just awesome. They had open communication and very knowledgeable and very professional and friendly. The medical assistant was very quick and efficient and friendly. The doctor was just excellent and gave a good sense of comfort level. Very nice and funny and caring doctor! I was so nervous but when I left the office I had a smile. Excellent service and excellent staff!
