Minimally Invasive Surgery is located on the 6th floor of the beautiful and centrally located Hale Pawa'a office building. My spouse had procedures with Dr. Harpstrite which is what brought us here. Many Mauians will say that if you're having surgery done, you come to Oahu. It's what we do, and is usually the right choice. I know this from personal experience! PARKING: They have their own parking garage with reasonable rates. Valet was available too. Validation stamps were available at the registration areas. THE OFFICE: The waiting room is very modern with counter space for laptop usage, power ports, TV and a patient progress monitor. The view of downtown Honolulu isn't too shabby either. Registration was very friendly and quick. The back area where all the magic happens is like a mini hospital setting, very impressive. Nurses were all very friendly and helpful. Doctor communication and follow-up were terrific. OTHER SERVICES: My spouse needed an X-ray which was conveniently located within the building. If you're hungry or thirsty, a cafe is located in the lobby. A small Long's/CVS pharmacy was also on the ground floor. OVERALL: Nice digs, great service, quality care, convenient location.
My son has shoulder surgery to repair a right shoulder anterior labral tear. The surgery seems to have gone well and he is currently doing rehab. However, I would advise anyone contemplating a potential procedure to get an estimated cost in writing and take the time to review it before agreeing to the procedure. We were given an estimated cost over the phone which was substantially lower than the actual cost and it was explained to us that my son needed implants to repair his shoulder that were not included in the initial estimate that we received over the phone. It's disappointing that we received the estimated cost by telephone call and only received the disclaimer that the surgery estimate did not include the implants on the actual day of surgery. The Dr. told us exactly what he intended to do and why that wasn't included in the original estimated cost is at the very least questionable/deceptive and at worst outright fraud. Please be aware and don't be shocked if the actual cost you will pay is much higher than any estimate you receive.
I had wrist surgery in mid December 2023; and I was very pleased with the staff and bedside manner of each. The surgeon (Dr. Blum) and the anesthesiologist and other staff members and nurses were not only professional but were very helpful and explained the procedure and answered questions very clearly. The recovery nursing staff was also one of the best I have seen. I’m very thankful for each one. I’m from out of state, and not familiar with anything but I was at ease after meeting them and as they introduced themselves and addressed my concerns. Thank you all.
From the time we walked through their door, we were treated with Aloha. Nadine checked my husband in and it was a quick , easy process completed efficiently and professionally. Brian was the PA and he was wonderful. You can see that he loves his career in the way he treated all his patients. We are truly grateful for the amazing team they have. Mahalo for sharing your joy with us ❤️
I honestly can’t say enough great things about MIS Hawaii. I’ve had 3 different procedures done here and each time, I’ve left feeling like I had the best care on the island. Every nurse I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know there, truly enjoy their job and care for their patients. Most recently, I had Scot as my recovery nurse. He was amazing! So kind, gentle and compassionate. I had a later scheduled surgery and my surgery took longer than originally planned, so I didn’t get into recovery until 6:30pm. Once Scot and I decided I was ready to get dressed and go home, I started the process of getting dressed but all the movement caused be to get sick to my stomach. Instead of getting frustrated with me, he kindly offered me a bag to get sick in and started another IV on me to insure I felt the best I could before leaving MIS Hawaii. That really meant a lot to me...I know that meant he had to stay at least an extra 30 mins at work to allow my IV bag to run through and he wasn’t a bit upset about it. At the end of the day, everyone’s ready to get off work, but Scot never once showed that. He even wheeled me up to our car in the garage vs having my husband move our car to the front of the building. Just like Scot, ALL the nurses here are amazing! I truly wish I knew all their names, but I do not. I’m hoping I never need another surgery again, but if I do, I will request my surgery to be preformed at MIS Hawaii. P.S.- They also take great care of the family members that are waiting for their loved ones in surgery!
