I had foot surgery two days ago at surgicare...I gotta say it was an awesome experience considering the circumstaces...staff is very pleasant, not stressed out, love what they do and it shows...in my opinion Queens and castle could learn a few things from them...as I have been to both several times... extremely organized and functional..top notch....thank you so very much....Carlton Boydston
Awesome Experience ! Nurses are the best! They took excellent care of me! But the reception wasn’t so good! They called me to ask if I wanted to come in earlier due to a cancellation, so I did. I checked in at 8:30 like they asked instead of 10:30 my original appt time. I had to wait till almost 10:00 before I even got in and I had to ask them how long more am I going to wait at 9:30! So they said oh I’ll call them, didn’t get called in by the nurse till almost 10:00!!! Also they asked me if I wanted a call back the next day after surgery to see how I’m doing, I said yes. No one called from Surgicare of Hawaii? I had questions for them but never received a call??
It was a wonderful Experience to be taken care by those Nurses … they covered me in 2 warm blankets in the cold Prep-room & then wrapped me like a baby in bed 🛌 sheets - felt so pampered! Dr Bal did an excellent Cataract Operation on both Eyes 👀- so efficient & detail oriented! It was Perfection at work! 😊 Thank You 🙏 so much - wishing them all a Million Blessings!
Had AC joint surgery here yesterday and it was as good of an experience as you could have with surgery. Everyone from the front desk to the doctors and nurses were exceptionally pleasant even when I was asking a lot of questions. They treated me like a person and not like a product that needed repair. I appreciated that there was good communication before my surgery as well. The directions to the parking garage were good and they have reserved stalls on the right as soon as you get to the second floor. From the reserved stalls it was a quick 2 minute walk to the entrance. The directions were included in the pre-op instructions. One note, make sure you have zero metal in whatever clothes you wear so you can leave them on. My pants had a metal zipper so I had to put on the gown. I would recommend this facility to anyone who needs surgery.
On 12/18 I had a surgical procedure at the SurgiCenter of Hawai’i at 500 Ala Moana in Honolulu. We flew from Lahaina for surgery. Everyone was friendly and the experience itself was pleasant except that the reception area was icebox cold and my husband nearly froze while he waited. Since it was raining, and the center is in a restaurant mall with mostly outside tables, there was no easy escape. At the $4.00/hour we were paying to park (with validation of our parking ticket!) I suppose he could have walked through the rain and sat in the rental car….without internet. The staff seemed very efficient and competent. I appreciated the hose that blew a constant stream of warm air under the blanket covering me. The procedure was completed in a few hours and we left. Only later did I realize that I had received no written discharge instructions at all and no verbal ones except to make no legal decisions and to avoid alcohol. I was assured that I would receive a phone call from a nurse on the following day. We flew home, arriving after the pharmacy closed, and I was not able to fill the prescription for pain medication. I was sent home with none and there is no pharmacy on the premises. When we filled the prescription the next morning they had only 8 of 28 pills which voided the rest of the script. No problem, I figured, a call to the doctor would solve that. I called the Physician Exchange as instructed. They refused to handle the call and instructed me to call the doctor’s office where a recording told me someone would get back to me within in 48 hours. No worries, I’d tell the nurse when she called. She didn’t. No one did. No one called from the SurgiCenter that day or the next. Unfortunately I’d responded - very favorably - to the survey they sent by email. I also denied nausea which hit almost immediately when I did so. I called the center. The number which had been answered the previous day reached a recording now. It mentioned the call I had (NOT) received and gave me an opportunity to leave a message. I did so explaining I had: Received no discharge instructions Was experiencing nausea Could not reach my doctor, and Had insufficient pain meds No one bothered to return my call nor have they ever. Even the best doctors depend their patients receiving safe follow-up for good outcomes. Sloppy follow up is careless and even dangerous; I got absolutely none from the SurgiCenter of Hawai’i. Judge for yourself if this is adequate medical care. As a healthcare professional myself I can assure you that it is appallingly not! No matter how good it feels, you can blow all the hot air in the world on a patient but it doesn’t make up for sloppy medical care!
