This facility demonstrated a high level of unprofessionalism. My father’s surgery time was changed three separate times while we were already in route. After he was finally checked in at 3:30 p.m., he was still waiting by 5:30 p.m. He is diabetic and had not eaten for more than 12 hours. When I approached the front desk to ask for an update, the staff members were gathered together laughing and chatting. I explained the situation and asked why my father had not yet been taken in for surgery, especially with it nearing 6:00 p.m. We were given conflicting explanations—first that surgeries sometimes take longer than expected, and then that the operating room had been “cleaning” for the past two hours. When I asked for clarification, one staff member, Vianey, rolled her eyes, called another employee over, and walked away. Based on this experience, I do not recommend scheduling procedures at this facility. I suggest making the drive to UC San Diego, where the staff has consistently shown professionalism and respect. I will be filing a formal complaint regarding this incident.

I want to thank the entire staff for making my visit, a great experience. Check-in was very easy. Olivia was very welcoming and professional. Shawn, Sonal, and Jessica were exceptional and gave me the level of comfort I needed. Dr. Zhen is a master of his craft with the level of confidence every patient expects from a surgeon. Gabby was very sweet, patient and caring during the discharge process. Again, thank you GSC.

The intake nurse that handled preop as well as the operating room nurse were exceptionally friendly, fast and efficient, yet human. Too bad the postoperative staff take any warm and comfy feelings away. In recovery I woke woke with the nurses already trying to dress me. I asked them sarcastically if they were in a hurry and was told “you’ve already been here 20 minutes”. Exact words. I asked for a sip of water to wet my dry mouth. They said wait until you are dressed. They dressed me and had me in a wheelchair in under three minutes. No opportunity to dress or groom myself. They even put my underwear on. I was told my “friend was waiting, we need to get you needed to get you home to have water and eat breakfast”. I felt like I was getting hustled out of a place that I couldn’t afford to pay the bill or something. If there’s not a few minutes for a person to have a sip of water and more importantly put on their own underwear, they’re doing something wrong.

Making you show up 90 minutes early for a procedure is ridiculous, especially when they are running over an hour late so you spend a good 2 hours just sitting in a waiting room. However, ever single person that I interacted with was great. Kind and friendly nurses and staff really made all the difference
