Had surgery here today, great place. Was quickly admitted, the staff and nurses were amazing, I was in and out within 3 hours. Thank you!
Surgery Center of Anchorage has been VERY hard to deal with. I’ve been trying to work with them/get my surgery scheduled for months and it has been nothing but problems. I need surgery to fix a hiatal hernia and have gastric bypass surgery to fix my extreme GERD. My insurance company was not cooperating to pay for my surgery even though it has NOTHING to do with my weight (my BMI is 30) it has everything to do with correcting my acid reflux. This is not an elective surgery on my part. Without this surgery I will develop esophageal or throat cancer. So, because my insurance would not pay- I was going to be a cash pay patient because of how urgently I need this surgery to help me feel better. I spoke to 2 different people who told me the price would be 10,500 dollars for the surgery (see picture below for an email confirmation with one of them)- I went to the bank and took out a personal loan for this amount. Jennifer was going to make me pay 15,000 and on TOP of that- they were going to charge my insurance the price for my hiatal hernia. Which does not make any sense. They are double dipping and that is completely UNETHICAL. I was also supposed to be staying a night in the surgery center and was told that they do not do that- but, my surgeon says that’s what he has done every time and it is completely necessary after such an invasive surgery. My surgeon decided that we should do my surgery somewhere else because he was not comfortable with how the surgery center of Anchorage is conducting their business. I truly hope you think twice before deciding to have any procedure done here. Katie and Robin were really nice and I didn’t have any problems while speaking with them.
The laddies up front and answer the phone calls might be some of the rudest people I have ever had to deal with. They force you to pay up front. For my procedure they had me pay $2500. After my insurance processed it was $1100! They stole my money, so I called and spoke with a women who promptly said “ WE DONT HAVE A BILLER” literally yelled at me. Told me they outsource to Utah and they wouldn’t do anything. I asked if I could get that companies phone number to which she replied with a lot of attitude “ I guess if you really want “ and then proceeded to give a phone number that is disconnected. So terrible service and scam artists run the front of house which is unfortunate because the doctors and nurses were all amazing.
I had a wonderful experience with the surgery team. They were so kind, caring and professional on the day of my surgery which helped to calm my nerves. I highly recommend this team and can’t thank them enough.
Overall the quality of medical care was good, except for the massive bruising because they made swiss cheese out of my veins, when starting the IV. Big complaint was the massive disrespect of patient time. After checking in on time AND doing pages of paperwork, still waited 45 additional minutes to be called back. Then was an hour late in starting my procedure. I would have so prefered to be sleeping in my warm bed instead of hanging out hungry in their waiting room, then on the uncomfortable bed wearing a gown for 1.5 hours. They did not seem overly busy, having lots of space in the waiting room and mostly open beds in the prep area. I suspect they do not care that patients are waiting excessively, as long as THEY never have to wait. I know you have to wait for most medical stuff, but this waiting seems excessive to me. And who wants the extra wait time before a stressful procedure?
